Tristan Strong Punches a Hole in the Sky: An African-American Mythology

This book by Kwame Mbalia is awesome. An introduction by Rick Riordan "Scribe of the Gods" really kicks things off. The book follows Tristan Strong, seventh grader, whose best friend died in a bus accident a few months back. One night he is perusing his best friend's journal when a creature shows up and snatches it.

Tristan proceeds to chase the criminal and accidently punches a hole in the sky of his childhood stories. He makes some new friends and sets of on a quest to rescue their home.

I would recommend this book to 10+ as there is some violence and scary scenes. All in all though it is a great book and you should all read it.
