The Diary of a Wimpy Kid series, by Jeff Kinney, is hilarious and crazy, following a kid named Greg Heffley as he tries to "survive" his family, his school and his best friend, Rowley Jefferson.
When things start to go wrong, Greg tries to fix things countless times but it almost always results in a hilarious situation. Such as Rowley having to eat 'The Cheese' from the asphalt courts or the day Greg flashes the party-goers his Wonder Woman underpants.
The books are written in the format of diary entries, with stick figure illustrations on every page to break up the text. Humour is a strong feature in the books, and school yard romance humour in particular is common.
These are great books for light reading, well suited for 7-11 year old. I really like reading these on plane and car trips, as they are light and easy to read and won't cause your brain to start hurting or get travel sick.
There is also a few Diary of a Wimpy Kid movies, which are equally funny, but like my Mum always says, "It is better to read the book before seeing the movies." There is also a new series coming out about Rowley Jefferson, called "Diary of an Awesome Friendly Kid" which looks great. Stay tuned in later weeks for me to review this new Jeff Kinney book.
